Vivantio Identified as a Leader in the Software-as-a-Service Market

The Service Desk Institute, a leading independent professional organisation for the IT service and support industry, has this month published a study on cloud computing and software-as-a-service in the service desk market.

The SDI white paper “Computing in the Cloud: The Evolution of the Service Desk” is available to SDI members and presents an independent summary of current research from analysts such as IDC.

The paper identifies Vivantio as a leader in the field and notes that “Vivantio predicted the move towards cloud based technologies 5 years ago and has manoeuvred itself into a strong position as one of the leading Service Desk SaaS providers”.

Using Vivantio’s own sales figures as evidence, the report goes on to explain that the rise in organisations choosing SaaS offerings has been dramatic, with 82% of customers in 2008 choosing the SaaS model.

It is also interesting to note that none of the traditional service desk vendors were available to comment for the report. Russell Wiltshire, Director, commented: “With so many service and support teams now looking for SaaS offerings, this lack of engagement by the traditional vendors is, in our opinion, a further indication that they are being left behind.”

The report also encourages customers to be wary of legacy vendors trying to jump on the bandwagon and badge products as SaaS when they aren’t. To pass on the full benefits of the SaaS model, the offering needs to have a multi-tenant architecture with one system providing services to many customers.

Russell Wiltshire concluded: “Service desk software is evolving and customers are now demanding lower costs and true SaaS solutions which traditional service desk vendors are struggling to provide.
